Having recently converting my den into my new home office, I decided it was time to shop for office equipment.
The first piece of equipment I shopped for was an all-in-one printer. After testing several models, including the MX330and the MX860 models, I finally decided on the Canon MP620. I must admit that price was a factor,(isn't it always?), and Amazon.com had a TERRIFIC price on the MP620, so I felt like it was a good time to buy the MP620!
The Canon Pixma MP620 All-In-One is really quite small, and weighs in at the north side of 18 lbs. Its particulars are 14.5 by 17.7 by 6.9 inches, consequently, it is a real space saver for my small office area. Believe me, I looked at several all-in-ones that were much bigger.
It has a stylish and trendy exterior because of the silver with black edging and a black control panel. Unfortunately, the black edging/paneling is a fingerprint "magnet", and attracts smudges galore.
Conveniently, All of the paper trays fold into the MP620 to keep it streamlined when I am not using it. It features 2 paper trays: a tray that loads in the front for standard paper, and a tray to the back that comes up for photo paper.
The MP620 features a front loading tray which has a capacity of 150 pages of paper, and the photo tray at the back has a capacity of 20 4x6-inch sheets of photo paper.
There actually is a third tray where the finished prints can be located. Off to the side, there is an additional compact compartment that has three different sized memory card slots.
The MP620 powers up in the blink of an eye, and it becomes apparent how user friendly the printer is. It has big buttons, with the scroll wheel clearly labeled.
The menus feature six options that are standard with most all-in-ones: Copy, Scan, Photo Index Sheet, Settings, Easy Photo Reprint, and Memory Card.
MP620- Many Helpful Tools!
Available for download to your computer are several programs created to improve your printing experience. Personally, I installed every program on the CD, and eight separate icons to popped up instantly on my desktop.
Two of the icons are links to register the MP620. They are described as the printer customer registration and the MP620 series user registration, So, you might want to take a moment and fill them out.
Another of the icons is the on-screen manual. The MP620 does not come with a paper manual, so it might be a good idea to download this one.
I love the Canon IJ Network Tool, and it really is necessary if you plan on sharing your printer on a network. I really am taking advantage of this program!
The MP Navigator EX 2.0 and the Easy-Photo Print EX icons are helpful for scanning and printing photos. However, you don't really need them to get quality scans or photo prints.
the final icons are the Canon Solution Menu and My Printer. The Canon Solution Menu is super if you download all the included software because it’s really just a shortcut menu to all of the programs giving you the ability to delete every shortcut icon from your desktop.
